Winton Pottery

Winton Pottery works from the former stables of Winton Castle on the Winton estate at Pencaitland, where potter Marg Hall has produced ceramics since the mid-1970s. Ceramics were first fired here at the start of that decade, with Hall taking on full production a few years later and continuing ever since, which makes it East Lothian's oldest established craft business. The studio hand-throws a range of domestic and decorative stoneware, including tableware, jugs, bowls and one-off decorative pieces, much of it finished in the pottery's own glazes. Work is sold directly from the studio, and the pottery holds occasional open days and a Christmas shop. The setting, within a working country estate, places the studio among the castle's historic outbuildings.
