John Townsend runs the Old Hall Bookshop from 32 Market Place in Brackley, a secondhand and antiquarian shop established in 1977 and a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association since 1986. Stock runs from general secondhand fiction and biography through to rarer material on Northamptonshire local history and topography, country sports, natural history and travel writing, with older and rarer items priced and catalogued separately from the general shelves. The shop occupies a building on Brackley's Market Place, in the middle of the town rather than a retail park, and has kept the same specialisms in local and countryside subjects since it opened. Customers include collectors searching for out-of-print county history titles as well as browsers picking up a secondhand novel, with staff able to source specific rare titles on request through the trade network.
