Steve Peel opened Yellow Bourbon on Angel Street in 2017, roasting coffee in the back of the shop so every espresso or bag sold has come straight from the drum. Peel grew up in Wellingborough and spent six years working for a London coffee company before deciding the daily commute no longer suited a young family, bringing that technical background home to Northampton's Cultural Quarter. The name comes from a yellow bourbon coffee cherry, a varietal valued for its clean sweetness. Green beans are bought directly from growers and roasted in small batches for filter, espresso and retail bags. Regulars include office workers from the nearby Guildhall, students and market traders, and staff will talk through origin, process and roast level with anyone buying a bag to take home.
