The Lamplighter Freehouse stands on Overstone Road in Northampton, first licensed in 1877 as the Overstone Arms and renamed The Lamplighter in 1989; it will mark a hundred and fifty years of continuous trading in 2027. Brothers Paul and James Hanna bought the pub in 2009, having grown up around the trade while their parents ran the Crown and Anchor on Victoria Road. As an independent freehouse, it is free to choose its own range of real ales, ciders and craft beer rather than being tied to a single brewery, and the kitchen serves home-cooked food alongside a weekly quiz and regular live music in the garden and bar. It opens Sunday midday until eleven, Tuesday to Thursday from four until eleven, Friday from four until one, and Saturday midday until one, closing all day Monday except bank holidays.
