Peter Harrington teaches pottery from his own studio at The Maltings on Chipping Hill in Halstead, having worked in clay since 1994. His classes cover both hand-building and wheel-throwing, taking beginners and more experienced potters within the same small session, and include a regular Tuesday adult pottery class. Harrington makes domestic ware himself, choosing glazes that leave the surface texture and character of the clay visible rather than covering it over. The studio is equipped for a handful of students at a time, with instruction given directly by Harrington rather than assistants or a rota of tutors. He also visits local schools and community groups to run pottery sessions away from the studio. Places are booked by telephone, and class times vary through the year depending on demand.
