Blackwells occupies Herons Farm on Colne Road, where the family has farmed since the 1930s and still rears poultry, including the geese and turkeys that anchor its Christmas trade. The shop pairs a full butchery with a deli counter, stocking European and English cheeses, cooked meats, traditional hams and air-dried charcuterie alongside its own and neighbouring farms' meat. Butchers work behind the counter and will cut and advise to order rather than pre-pack everything. Beyond meat, the shelves carry fruit and vegetables, cakes and bakes, and a range of homemade ready meals, with the business reckoning that more than ninety per cent of what it sells is sourced within thirty miles. It is a working farm rather than a retail-park unit, which shows in the seasonality of the produce. For Coggeshall cooks it functions as butcher, delicatessen and greengrocer in one visit.
