The Smithy (HelenC Walls Jewellery)

The Smithy is a jewellery boutique and workshop run by goldsmith Helen C Walls from premises off Market Hill in Saffron Walden. Walls trained in jewellery and silversmithing at Loughborough University and has worked in the trade for more than sixteen years, including time in London's Hatton Garden, before setting up her own workshop in Essex. She designs and makes rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and cufflinks in sterling silver and 9k gold, largely from recycled metals, working in natural forms and textured surfaces alongside gemstones. Pieces are hallmarked at the London Assay Office. Alongside ready-made collections, the workshop takes on bespoke commissions and repairs, including resetting stones from existing jewellery, and offers pearl-knotting and bead-stringing services. It opens Tuesday from 10am to 4pm and Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm, closed Sunday and Monday. Work is made on the premises rather than bought in for resale.
