Rare Birds Books opened on Raeburn Place in Stockbridge in August 2021, founded by Rachel Wood after four years running the Rare Birds Book Club subscription service. The shop was reported at the time as Scotland's first bookshop dedicated entirely to women's writing, stocking fiction and non-fiction by female authors alongside a small young adult section, though it does not currently stock children's books. Staff will special-order any title available in the UK market. The Raeburn Place shop doubles as the book club's office and events space, hosting author readings and evening book clubs. Dogs are welcome on the shop floor.
