Saorsa Art Gallery occupies a shopfront on Deanhaugh Street in Stockbridge, where landscape painter Tommy Fitchet works and shows in the same space. The gallery holds several small rooms rather than one open floor, each hung with a rotating run of his abstract paintings, which take their colour and structure from the Scottish landscape and the way light shifts across it through the seasons. Fitchet is usually on the premises and happy to talk through individual pieces or works in progress, since the studio sits within the same building. There is no representation of other artists here; everything on the walls is his own. The gallery keeps regular shop hours through most of the year, closing for short stretches around exhibition changeovers, and remains one of the few Stockbridge spaces where visitors can buy directly from the painter.
