Red Earth Designs is a ceramics and framing studio run by twin sisters Claire and Karen Gibson from a unit at Townsend Enterprise Park, close to the Divis Street end of the Falls area. The pair, both graduates in Fine and Applied Art from the University of Ulster, set up the business together in 2001 and have worked from the same studio for over two decades, throwing and decorating porcelain by hand with botanical motifs of butterflies, insects and leaves. The studio doubles as a small shop, open to the public to call in and browse a full display of finished ceramics, and also runs a picture-framing service alongside the pottery. Pieces are sold direct from the studio as well as through stockists and craft fairs across Northern Ireland.
