South Yorkshire Transport Museum is a volunteer-run museum on Waddington Way in Aldwarke, on the edge of Rotherham. Its roots go back to the late 1960s, when schoolboys from High Storrs Grammar School began collecting old buses, including a 1946 Leyland PD1 double-decker, forming the nucleus of what became the Sheffield Omnibus Enthusiasts Society. The registered charity was established in 1995, having previously opened a museum at the Tinsley Tram Sheds in 1987, before moving to its current Aldwarke site in 2007 and adopting its present name. The collection now runs to around 50 vehicles, including buses, cars and a preserved tramcar body, restored and maintained entirely by volunteers. The museum opens to the public on the second Sunday of each month, when visitors can also ride on one of the museum's working buses as part of admission.
