The Hilltop

The Hilltop is a free house standing alone on the A630 Sheffield Road in Conisbrough, between Mexborough and Doncaster. It is split into a public bar and a separate lounge and dining area, and sells four cask ales on handpump, with guest beers rotating in alongside a house regular. Food is home-cooked rather than bought in and reheated, with a chip-butty night on Mondays, a pie night on Thursdays, a carvery on Fridays and a Sunday lunch service of roasted meats that draws custom from beyond the village. The pub has been named Doncaster CAMRA District Pub of the Season several times, most recently in autumn 2025, and District Pub of the Year in 2019. It opens from late afternoon on Mondays and from late morning the rest of the week, with breakfast served some mornings. It remains a single free house rather than part of a managed pub group.
