The Mann family founded the fishmongery in Hillsborough in 1921, and Christian Szurko — a chef who worked The Ivy and J Sheekey before coming home to Sheffield — bought it in 2005 through a friendship with Peter Mann, opening the Sharrow Vale Road shop in 2008 that is now the city's reference fish counter. The trade grew a family of its own: Native, his seafood restaurant on Gibraltar Street, opened in 2021, and the Stag & Eel cocktail bar followed in 2024 — three linked doors under one owner, disclosed here. The counter cooks your fish on request, which is a chef's shop showing its hand.
