Bishops Caribbean Bistro trades from a corner unit on Lees Hall Avenue in Meersbrook, run by Shaun Yarde using recipes passed down from his mother. Despite the bistro signage and tiled frontage, most orders go out as takeaway or delivery rather than being eaten at a table on site, with staff working through a steady stream of app orders behind the counter. The menu runs to stewed oxtail, jerk chicken, jerk prawns, fried plantain, okra and Caribbean patties, cooked to order rather than held under a heat lamp. Yarde had previously run a coffee shop before switching to Caribbean food full time. The bistro opens Thursday to Sunday from four until nine in the evening, and stays closed the rest of the week. Waits can run long at busy periods, so phoning ahead is worthwhile.
