Locksley Distilling Co. was founded in 2013 by John Cherry and Cynthia King, who set up their still inside Portland Works on Randall Street, a Grade II* listed cutlery works from 1879 sometimes credited as the birthplace of stainless steel. The distillery makes its flagship Sir Robin of Locksley Gin along with other gins, rum, vodka and liqueurs, distilled and bottled on site in a copper pot still rather than bought in as bulk spirit and rebranded. Locksley also takes on contract distilling for other drinks brands. The unit runs distillery tasting tours on Wednesdays at 3pm and 6.30pm, and Fridays and Saturdays at 6.30pm, each lasting around 60 to 90 minutes and including a guided walk through the production process and a tasting of the core range. Visitors reach the still by a protected staircase inside the listed building, which is not accessible to wheelchair users. Bottles are sold on site and by mail order rather than solely through third-party retailers.
