The Cowbridge Bookshop has traded from 72 Eastgate since 1984, when it was founded by John and Kyrie MacLean. Their son Ross has run the shop for the past 15 years, and the family has spoken of hoping to hand it on to a third generation. The shop stocks a general range of new titles for adults and children, from fiction and local history to cookery, and will order in specific titles that are not on the shelves. It is a registered stockist of National Book Tokens. Sitting on Cowbridge's historic high street among other independent traders, the shop has built a following through recommendations and knowledge of its stock rather than promotion. Staff advise on children's reading and can source out-of-print titles on request. It remains one of the longer-running independent booksellers in the Vale of Glamorgan, having stayed under the same family for four decades of trading.
