The building on Stoke Newington High Street has cycled through names over the years, closing in 2009 before reopening as the Jolly Butchers under new owners determined to build something that would last. Run today as an independently owned free house rather than tied to a brewery, it pours a rotating range of real ales, ciders, craft beers and stouts, with high turnover keeping the taps fresh. Booma Kitchen operates from the back, serving Indian food alongside the drinks from Monday to Saturday, with a traditional roast on Sundays. The pub was nominated by CAMRA within its first year back and was named among the Guardian's top ten pubs in Britain. Open from early afternoon into the small hours on Fridays, it draws regulars and people crossing over from the high street for a pint before food.
