The Rose and Crown has stood beside Romaldkirk's Saxon church since 1733, when it opened as a coaching inn on the road through Teesdale, and has belonged to the Robinson family, who farm locally, since Thomas and Cheryl Robinson took over in 2012. Fourteen individually decorated bedrooms sit above a bar with an open fire and an oak-panelled restaurant serving food built around Teesdale produce and game. Most rooms accept up to two dogs, and the inn offers free parking front and rear for guests arriving by car, or a stop directly outside for the 95 and 96 bus services. The three greens that make up the village, complete with medieval stocks and a working water pump, sit just beyond the front door, giving guests somewhere to walk before dinner.
