The Seven Stars stands behind the Royal Courts of Justice on Carey Street, a tiny free house in a building that survived the Great Fire, run since 2001 by the publican and cookery writer Roxy Beaujolais, who took the lease to run her own joint. It draws barristers, clerks and students to a pair of cramped, characterful rooms with proper food and beer and a resident cat in a ruff. A genuine independent in legal London, unchanged and unbothered. Squeeze in at lunchtime and eavesdrop on the law.
