I. Camisa & Son has traded as an Italian delicatessen from Soho since 1929, when brothers Ennio and Isidoro Camisa opened their first shop nearby on Old Compton Street. Wartime internment of Italian nationals closed the business; the brothers reopened after 1945 on Berwick Street before Isidoro returned to Old Compton Street, settling at number 61, where the shop still stands. Shelves and hanging rails carry Parma and San Daniele ham, wheels of parmesan and other Italian cheeses, fresh pasta and salami, much of it shipped weekly from Italy, alongside handmade panini made to order at the counter. A 2023 rent dispute nearly closed the business permanently; a campaign by regulars and the family's negotiation with the landlord kept the single shop open under Camisa ownership.
