Handel & Hendrix House occupies two adjoining Mayfair terraced houses on Brook Street where, two and a half centuries apart, the composer George Frideric Handel and the guitarist Jimi Hendrix each lived. Handel rented number 25 from 1723 until his death in 1759, composing Messiah and Music for the Royal Fireworks in rooms now restored with Georgian panelling, a working harpsichord and a programme of live recitals. Hendrix took a flat above the former Mayfair Practice Rooms next door at number 23 in 1968, decorating it with fabrics bought on Portobello Road; the rooms recreate that brief tenancy alongside recordings and memorabilia. A charitable trust runs the museum, which reopened with expanded Hendrix galleries in 2016. It closes on Mondays and Tuesdays.
