The King & Queen has held a licence at 1-2 Foley Street since 1767, and the Grade II listed Edwardian Gothic building it now occupies became a meeting place for the Chartists' Washington Brigade in the 1840s. Bob Dylan played the pub's folk club in December 1962, his first performance outside the United States, and a photograph beside the bar still marks the date. A family has run the pub as a free house since 1985, keeping folk nights going in the upstairs room and pulling guest ales from Marston's and Sambrook's alongside the regulars. There is no kitchen, so drinkers bring in pizza from around the corner.
