Judd Books has sold secondhand and remaindered books from Marchmont Street since the early 1990s, having started on the nearby street from which it takes its name before consolidating onto this single site. The ground floor holds literature, art, design, film and music titles, while a basement extends into history, philosophy, politics and social science, reflecting the academic trade of neighbouring UCL, the British Library and the School of Oriental and African Studies. Prices are still pencilled inside covers rather than scanned, and stock turns over quickly enough that browsing regularly turns up review copies and publisher overstock alongside genuine rarities. The shop keeps long opening hours seven days a week, making it a fixture for students working through reading lists on a budget.
