Simon Tyner's parents bought the Mentone Hotel in Cartwright Gardens in 1972, and Simon still runs the family business today. The hotel occupies three connected Georgian townhouses, Grade II listed, arranged over five floors with more than forty rooms, all en suite. There is no lift, a condition of keeping the listed staircase and fittings intact, and no air conditioning either. Guests look out over the private gated gardens and tennis courts that give Cartwright Gardens its name, a rare survival of Bloomsbury's Georgian residential squares. Breakfast is cooked to order each morning, a full English alongside a continental buffet, and included for anyone booking directly rather than through a third-party site. The hotel sits within walking distance of King's Cross, Euston and Russell Square stations.
