Peter Dore-Smith opened Kaffeine on Great Titchfield Street in 2009, after a five-week refurbishment of a former sandwich shop. A Melbourne native who had worked hospitality management roles before moving to London in 2005, Dore-Smith installed a Synesso Cyncra espresso machine and began serving Square Mile Coffee, founded by World Barista Championship winner James Hoffmann. The cafe built a following among media and design workers nearby and now serves 450 to 500 customers a day. A second, larger branch opened on Eastcastle Street in 2015. Kaffeine bakes weekly-changing menus of breakfast and lunch dishes alongside espresso and loose-leaf tea, and runs latte art workshops for anyone wanting to learn the trade.
