The Barley Mow has traded from 8 Dorset Street since it opened to the public in 1793, two years after the building went up, making it one of the oldest pubs in Marylebone. It survives as one of the last free houses in central London, unattached to any single brewery, and pours up to five cask ales across six handpumps that thin out to two in summer. The Grade II listed interior keeps its original matchboard panelling, hung with prints of Georgian Marylebone, and two narrow drinking booths built directly into the bar counter that function as private snugs. Food runs to pies and bar snacks rather than a full kitchen menu. A weekly quiz has grown popular enough that regulars now book a table in advance to take part. The pub sits just north of Marylebone High Street.
