Watson and Walpole opened on Church Street in 2020, run by chef Rob Walpole alongside Ruth and David Watson, whose earlier restaurant work included running Hintlesham Hall. The kitchen makes pasta by hand daily and cooks octopus and lamb over a wood fire, with a fisso lunch menu offering five shareable dishes for a fixed price. Next door, the Beviamo bar serves wood-fired pizza and cichetti, while an ice cream counter across the street, also under the same ownership, sells dairy ice cream made on the premises. The dining room seats guests at close tables in a converted shopfront, keeping the feel of a neighbourhood trattoria rather than a formal restaurant. The team closes for a short break each quarter, publishing the dates on their website so regulars can plan around them.
