Emmett's has traded from The Street in Peasenhall since 1820, one of Britain's oldest continuously working smokehouses. Mark Thomas bought the business from the founding family in 2000 and now runs it with former pig farmer Ian Macfarlane. Suffolk Black gammons and nitrate-free bacon are hung on hooks in the heritage smokehouses behind the shop and smoked over beech for a day or two, using free-range pork from Blythburgh herds. The Christmas ham once held a Royal Warrant. The shop also stocks cheese, wine and hampers, and runs a small cafe serving lunches alongside the smoked meats. Speciality Food Magazine has named it among Britain's best delis.
