The Wheatsheaf Inn, on Baxters Wynd off Falkirk High Street, is the town's oldest public house, with a sign on the building reading 'established 1797'. Reached down one of the town's old vennels, it keeps its wood-panelled bar and traditional fittings, with a beer garden added at the rear. The pub trades as a free house rather than being tied to a brewery, and rotates three cask ales from Scottish and English brewers. It holds a Cask Marque award for the quality of its cask beer and is listed in CAMRA's Good Beer Guide. Gerrard Hainey and Alison McGraw took over the pub after previous owner Alex Black retired following eleven years running it, their first venture into the licensed trade. The pub hosts occasional live music. Open Monday to Thursday and Sunday, 1pm to midnight; Friday 1pm to 1am; Saturday noon to 1am.
