Falkirk Distillery was incorporated in 2007 by George Stewart, who had spent years bottling natural spring water and wanted to bring whisky production back to a town that lost its last distillery, Rosebank, in 1993. His daughter Fiona joined him to see the project through, and the pair built the distillery themselves on Grandsable Road, close to the line of the Antonine Wall, drawing water from an artesian well on the site. Production of new make spirit began in 2020, and the first bottles of Falkirk single malt went to auction ahead of a wider public release. The visitor centre runs paid tours through the stills and a traditional dunnage warehouse with hand-laid brick, finishing in a shop selling bottles alongside a small range of the site's spring water. Tours must be booked in advance rather than turning up on the day.
