Matthew Walkerdine, who had run the independent publisher Museums Press in Manchester, opened Good Press in Glasgow in 2011 and gave it a policy no other UK bookshop matches: open submissions, meaning anyone who self-publishes a book can bring it in for the shelves. The result is a genuinely democratic art-book and zine shop, run now as a collective, sharing its St Andrews Street space with a risograph print studio and a small gallery, and hosting launches and open calls through the summer of 2026. Glasgow's art schools export talent worldwide; the printed evidence of what stays and what circulates is stocked here, unfiltered by anyone's idea of the market.
