Mono opened in a King's Court railway arch in October 2002 as part of the musician-led collective — Stephen McRobbie of The Pastels among the principals — that also gave Glasgow Stereo, Nice N Sleazy and the Old Hairdressers, and it has been the city's essential vegan bar-café-venue ever since: an all-plant kitchen, a proper stage that books gigs into late 2026, and an avowed LGBT+ safer space. The record shop through the archway is a separate business (see Monorail), but the ecosystem is one: eat, drink, browse vinyl, see a band, all under the same brick vault. Glasgow's independent music scene has a clubhouse, and this is a large part of it.
