12 Oak Street Gallery opened in Llangollen in June 2019, run by the painter Karl Young from a small shopfront on Oak Street just off the town centre. Young shows and sells his own paintings alongside work by other artists from North Wales and the Welsh Borders, with stock including ceramics, glassware and fabric collage pieces in addition to paintings and prints. Exhibitions rotate through the year rather than presenting a single fixed hang, and the gallery has hosted shows tied to local events including the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. Young has said he prioritises work made from creative intent over a commercial formula, and the space functions as both retail gallery and working studio. The gallery keeps a short week, opening Thursday to Saturday only, which limits it to a narrower slice of passing tourist trade than the daily-opening shops nearby on Castle Street. It remains a single-site, owner-run business rather than part of a gallery group.
