Berwick Lodge

Berwick Lodge sits on eighteen acres of grounds on a hill above Henbury, a Victorian house built in 1890 and restored by owners Sarah and Fevzi Arikan, who run it as an independent hotel rather than part of any group. Public rooms keep much of the original arts-and-crafts detailing, and each of the bedrooms is furnished individually rather than to a matching template. The kitchen holds an AA Rosette and serves lunch, afternoon tea and dinner daily, built around a British menu that leans on regional suppliers. Views from the grounds reach across to the Welsh hills on a clear day, and the woodland surrounding the house is largely left alone. The hotel also hosts weddings and private events, trade that has helped keep a house of this size in single ownership rather than sold on to a chain.
