The Grand is a Frank Matcham-designed theatre on Church Street, opened in 1894 and now a Grade II* listed building. Saved from demolition by a volunteer campaign in the 1970s, it reopened in 1981 and is run today by its own registered charities rather than a national theatre chain: Blackpool Grand Theatre Trust owns and conserves the building, while Blackpool Grand Theatre (Arts and Entertainments) programmes the stage. The auditorium seats around 1,100 across three tiers and hosts touring drama, musicals, opera, dance, pantomime, comedy and children's shows through the year, alongside its own community and learning work. The ornate Matcham interior, with cantilevered balconies and painted decoration, is among the best-preserved of his surviving theatres in the North West, and the building remains an independently governed single venue.
