Gillian and Geoffrey Butler founded Butler's Wine Cellar in 1979, and their son Henry Butler now runs the business from a shop on St George's Road in Kemp Town. Butler's was a founding member of Vindependents, a national group of roughly forty independent wine merchants that deals directly with small, mostly family-run producers rather than through mass distributors. The shop wholesales to restaurants, pubs and bars across Brighton and Hove and beyond, alongside its retail counter trade, and hosts tastings and a wine course. Henry Butler and colleague Cassie Gould record a regular podcast on the trade, the Butler's Wine Show. The Kemp Town shop opens Wednesday to Saturday.
