The Cadwgan Inn stands on Market Street a short walk from Aberaeron's harbour, a single-bar free house that has served the town since at least 1869, when Jenkin Jenkins held the licence. Records trace three generations of the Jenkins family running it into the twentieth century, including Jane Jenkins, licensee in 1905, and Martha Jenkins, who later traded it as the Cadwgan Wine Vaults. The pub takes its name from the Cadwgan, the last ship built in the town's yards. It keeps to a simple formula: cask ales and ciders from small Welsh and border breweries, one regular beer alongside a couple of changing guests, a garden behind the bar and a few pavement tables out front. There is no food menu and no music, just conversation and whatever sport is showing on the television.
