New Quay Boat Trips runs dolphin-watching and wildlife excursions from New Quay's Main Pier, a family business founded in 1955 by fishermen Winston Evans and his father Arden, who began combining fishing trips with summer passenger excursions. Winston's son Jonathan took over day-to-day running of the operation in 2012 and now skippers the Suncatcher, alongside sister vessels Dreamcatcher and Ermol. Early wooden boats were replaced with fibreglass craft from the 1970s onward for durability. The company runs regular dolphin-spotting trips around Cardigan Bay, a designated Special Area of Conservation for bottlenose dolphins, as well as angling trips, sightseeing excursions and private charters. The booking office sits at the start of New Quay pier. The business remains independently owned and family-run three generations on, rather than operating as part of a wider tour-boat group.
