The last Gothenburg pub left in Scotland, on Main Street in Newtongrange, built for the miners of the Lady Victoria, Lingerwood and Bryans collieries. The present building went up in 1910 at a cost of £3,081, replacing an earlier conversion of two colliery houses. A 1962 extension added a games room, lounge bar, function room and wine store, and it was refurbished in 1997. The Dean Tavern Trust owns and runs it on behalf of the community, so its surplus goes back to the village rather than to a pub company.
