Diss Publishing has traded from 40 Mere Street since incorporating in January 1925, and the Diss Express has reported the shop's roots reach back to 1864. Owner Birgitte Mager, who credits her late father with building up the business, runs it as a combined bookshop, stationer and gift shop, with a cafe and regular book-signing events at the back of the building. The shelves cover fiction, local history and children's books alongside art and craft materials, cards and games. Staff work on an old-fashioned model, offering to track down out-of-print titles and special orders rather than relying on the website, which the shop itself says only shows a fraction of what is in store.
