Evertons traces back to 1918, when the family opened a small wine shop, and grew through the twentieth century into a chain of twenty-one shops and delicatessens across the West Midlands under the name Evertons of Ombersley. The retail side was later scaled back as the business built a wholesale trade supplying restaurants and bars, work that expanded under Richard Everton, the third generation, from the late 1970s. The current generation, Jack and Lily Everton, opened this single shop in Reindeer Court in central Worcester, returning the family name to retail after decades focused on wholesale. It remains a family business several generations deep, selling a curated range of wine alongside the wholesale trade that still runs behind it.
