The building at 8 Welles Street began as a Victorian butcher's shop before a spell as an off-licence and then, from 2009, the Beer Emporium micropub. Four Priests Brewery of Middlewich took over the site in July 2025, stripping out and rebuilding the cellar to run six handpumps of cask ale alongside ten keg lines and a bottle shop stocked with UK and international beers. Seating is arranged around the bar, in the window and in a small room at the back, with no screens, jukebox or fruit machines to compete with conversation. Two of the cask lines are usually poured from the brewery's own range, with the rest rotating through local and regional guests such as Ossett. A Monday and Tuesday cask club gives a discount on real ale. The pub opens seven days a week.
