The McKillop family built Glens of Antrim Potatoes into a well-known Northern Ireland name over three generations before launching hand-cooked crisps in 2015 and, in 2020, a whiskey distillery on the coast road at Cushendall. Michael, Mary, and Charlie McKillop run Lir Irish Whiskey from the Gortaclee Road site, applying the family's agricultural background to spirits production. The whiskey reaches the Republic of Ireland, continental Europe, a dozen US states, and export markets as far as Abu Dhabi and Australia. A cask ownership scheme called The 300 Club lets customers buy into casks as they mature. The distillery sits on the coast road toward the Giant's Causeway, the newest branch of a business that began in potato farming.
