Grown and Made Woodcraft teaches green woodworking at Golden Hill Wood, a smallholding at Penycaemawr outside Usk run by Celi, who has worked unseasoned wood since 2010 and has taught courses on site since 2017. The holding covers ten acres of broadleaf woodland and three acres of wildflower meadow on a hilltop facing the Black Mountains. Courses use hand tools on freshly felled timber rather than kiln-dried stock, covering spoon and spatula carving, shavehorse building, stool making and bench construction, with groups kept small for individual guidance. Multi-day courses include camping and firewood on site, and all sessions provide tea, coffee and biscuits. No prior woodworking experience is required, and participants need only bring lunch and weatherproof clothing. The project favours female and minority-gender tutors where it can.
