Herne Hill Books opened in 2009 on Railton Road, in a building that spent much of the twentieth century as a tobacconist before an 1888 renumbering turned it from 25 Lett Street into 289 Railton Road. Owner Tom Blayds runs it as the sister shop to Clapham Books on The Pavement, and the small floor space holds new releases alongside older titles kept in print. Staff order rare, out-of-print and American editions for next-day delivery on request. The shop closes on Mondays but opens every other day, including Sunday afternoons from 9.30am to 4pm, and stocks children's and adult sections side by side across its narrow shelves.
