Hospitalfield is a historic house and contemporary art organisation on the edge of Arbroath, run as a charitable trust since 1900. Built up through the 19th century by Elizabeth and Patrick Allan Fraser, it is considered one of Scotland's earliest schools of fine art. Today it hosts artists' residencies, exhibitions and study days alongside guided tours of the house, gardens and memorial chapel, which run from April to October; outside tour times the house itself is not open to casual visitors. A café with a garden and fernery serves food through the afternoon. The permanent collection centres on 19th-century paintings and sculpture commissioned by the Frasers, shown alongside works acquired through more recent artist projects. A new collections and study centre has been approved by Angus Council.
