Jasmine Pottery Studios was founded in April 2019 by Naomi Jasmine, a former teacher who studied design crafts specialising in ceramics and had traded as Naomi Jasmine Ceramics before opening a studio. She started in a small corner shop on Almshouse Lane, having previously tested the idea in a small studio in Leeds and a unit inside The Ridings shopping centre in Wakefield. Her partner, Pepe Candelas, from nearby Pontefract, joined the business after being made redundant during lockdown, and both are qualified teachers who now run the studio's classes together. The studio offers wheel-throwing sessions, hand-building workshops and pottery-painting for adults and children, alongside a cafe area where finished pieces can be collected after firing. It has built a following locally for informal adult sessions that have grown through word of mouth, alongside children's parties and school holiday courses.
