Newry and Mourne Museum occupies Bagenal's Castle on Castle Street in Newry, a fortified merchant's residence built within the grounds of a twelfth-century Cistercian abbey. The museum opened in 1986 and relocated to the castle site in 2007, holding over fourteen thousand artefacts relating to the district's social, working and border history. Admission is free of charge.
