Corn Dolly began in 1990 when brothers Jim and Anthony O'Keeffe borrowed ten thousand pounds and opened a single shop on Newry's Hill Street. A third brother, Donal, joined in 1994 to run the retail side as the business added a second shop in Warrenpoint and, later, a purpose-built bakery with modern ovens. All three brothers trained as bakers rather than businesspeople, and the current shop on Marcus Square still turns out wheaten loaves, soda farls and potato bread alongside porter cake and whiskey cake. Custom wedding and novelty cakes are made to order, and a third generation of the O'Keeffe family now works alongside the founders.
