Owain Salter, from Raglan, taught himself blacksmithing as a teenager, working in his family's garage with techniques picked up from online videos and books before going to college for further training. He set up his own forge, The Forge, in Hardwick on the edge of Abergavenny, making bespoke ornamental and architectural ironwork including gates, railings and fire tools, alongside smaller items such as hooks and key rings. Salter has shown his work at agricultural shows around Wales and was still in his early twenties when featured by ITV Wales as one of a small number of young blacksmiths keeping the trade going in the region. The workshop is open to visitors during working hours, with Salter welcoming people who want to see the forge in use, discuss a commission or place an order directly. The Forge operates Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and is closed at weekends.
